Following a three week Vacation
Bible School in the Liverpool area and much prayerful consideration,
20 people indicated a desire to begin a new work. Twenty-two people
attended the first service in a rented facility on August
7, 1966. The new work was sponsored by Central Baptist Church
of Syracuse.
The
new church - Northside Baptist - constituted with 42 charter
members on June 29, 1968. In June of 1969, the current property
was purchased. A ground breaking ceremony was held in December,
1972 for the first phase construction. The building was dedicated
on June 17, 1973. The education wing of the church was dedicated
following its completion in 1983. The sanctuary was expanded
in 1988.
In
February 2000, the church again voted to expand its facilities
and broke ground in June 2001 to begin construction on 14,600
square feet of additional space. The new facility was put into
use in March 2002 and includes a multi-purpose room, additional
classroom space and a kitchen.
In
2003, a 1.2 acre parcel of land adjacent to the church property
was vacated by what had been a McDonalds for nearly 30 years.
Suspecting that God may again be working, the church comitted
the matter to prayer and at God's leading purchased the land.
By 2006, Northside had again outgrown its facilities. An expansion team had already been meeting for quite some time to consider the possiblities for the future. The church ultimately voted to move forward with yet another expansion project that would expand the current mult-purpose room and provide much needed space for education and ministry. Approval for the project was granted by the town government on Sept. 13, 2006.
